The Itaipu Dam and Power Station

DESCRIPTION:

This visit to the largest Hydroelectric Dam in the world begins at the Reception Center where an audiovisual about the dam and Power Station is presented. Afterwards visit the dam itself and the observation deck with a view of the spillway where one can have an idea of the dimension of this technological wonder and have a panoramic view of the whole dam. Afterwards, visit the reservoir. The Itaipu Dam is eight kilometers wide and a total of 20 turbines with an installed capacity of 14,000,000 kilowatts.

Biological Refuge

DESCRIPTION:

Walk through this forest preserve, which features enclosures for native wildlife such as jaguars, tapirs, and capuchin monkeys. Take the Guaimbê Trail to see native fauna and huge trees. On the “Senses Trail,” natural elements will stimulate your senses of touch, hearing, taste, and sight.  On the “Sustainability and Experience Trail”, see examples of low-impact constructions and low-impact energy production. On the “Waters Trail,” the theme is preservation of spring water.

Eco-Museum

DESCRIPTION:

Visit this interactive exhibition that uses innovative resources such as dioramas and miniature models that portray local history. Spaces are dedicated to environmental education and to reinforcing the community memory with thematic exhibits on water, energy, and the environment. Visit a moving replica of a turbine from the Itaipu Dam.
